Odfried Hepp, Steffen Dupper, Hamberger und Bergmann erhielten am 24 September von der deutschen Botschaft in Beirut neu ausgestellte Reisepässe. Noch am selben Tage wohl am späten Vormittag wurde die Gruppe auf der, direkt am Lager Bir Hassan entlang führenden Airportstraße von Fedayin der Fatah-Miliz gestoppt und in das Lager-Gefängnis im Bir Hassan verbracht. Zu der Zeit befand ich mich nicht im Libanon, sondern in Deutschland. Erst am 9. Oktober traf ich wieder in Beirut ein. Am 10. Oktober konnte ich Hepp im Lagergefängnis im Bir Hassan besuchen und befragen.
Demzufolge konnte Hepp unmöglich an dem Oktoberfestattentat beteiligt gewesen sein.
Es mag allerdings zu treffen, dass die deutschen Ermittler die Vermutung hatten, dass die Festnahme der Hepp Gruppe nur ein Täuschungsmanöver gewesen war.
